It is now possible to register for UIF online by way of the Department of Labour’s new uFiling website located at https://www.ufiling.co.za/. The following steps are required to register:
Click to download a uFiling System User Guide published by the Department of Labour.
The guide provides a comprehensive step by step procedure for the online registration process as well as how to effect monthly payments.
Alternatively, in order to register for UIF manually, employers can submit two forms to the Department of Labour, namely: form UI-8D (an Application for Registration) and form UI-19 (an Employer’s Declaration Form).

The UI-19 Form calls for a ‘UIF employer reference number’ to be provided. If you have not previously registered as an employer with the Department of Labour then you will not have such a reference number and consequently this can be left blank. The same is true in respect of the PAYE reference number.
To register by way of email, the completed UI-8D and UI-19 Forms can be sent to newUI8registrations@labour.gov.za or alternatively webmaster@uif.gov.za. Alternatively, the completed forms can be dropped off by hand at the closest Labour Centre. Should you have any difficulties or queries concerning the registration process, the Department of Labour can be telephonically contacted on 0800 843 843.
In respect of making monthly payments to UIF, Employers can utilize
‘uFiling’ available on the Department of Labour’s uFiling website or
alternatively make payment through their Bank. For an explanation regarding how
to actually make monthly payments, click to see the
endnote.[i]
